Ridding HTML, and CSS coming head-first again. This week, we were briefed on CSS, which was something like personalising webpages. There was quite a lot to know, comprising of the format in which it should be written, and all the codes for the colours and the design. It was something like HTML too, with all the opening and closing brackets. I took quitr a period of time to understand the "language" in which it had to be written in, but, of course, with some knowledge of HTML, it wasn't so hard after all. Mr Kent is thinking of giving us another project, to customise a webpage using CSS.
That's not all, as after four weeks of lessons on IS, our knowledge of computer skills had to be tested on. In other words, we're going to have a graded class test, and that is going to make this week a busy one. I had to revise on basically, what I'd posted, Web and New Media, Copyright, HTML and CSS. Revising all that isn't easy when you have only a week, but that may be different for a computer nerd though.
Now that's the difference. I'm not a computer nerd, so I'm off to my notes!
How's the posts so far?

HTML webpages
This week, we were taught the HTML format in class, and I was really confused myself. What's <> >supposed to mean? I was just staring at the screen throughout the class, following my teacher's instructions like a robot, and walking home with a gut feeling that this project wasn't going to be easy.
It was not until I had viewed the PPT slides myself and watched a video on youtube that I finally exclaimed:" Oh! That's why!" Well, working with only one partner and converting such a huge file wasn't easy. There was specific guidelines to adhere to, and it was really complicated. I had a bit of trouble trying to get the picture in the right place, showing the words in the right font and creting a hyperlink, but it was finally done following last-minute touch-ons, and submitted to my teacher.(Don't ask me how)
Even then, I had a bit of problem, as for a reason, the computer was really lagging, and I hadn't got the file name and format correct.
Lastly, we had to do some reflection on the project work, and I was the one who did it, but I was quite happy myself for being able to submit this piece of work, which got was completed in a very limited amount of time, starting only on Monday when I was supposed to submit it shortly three days later.
Well, at least I'm through with it now.

Web and new media
The second IS lesson was all about the web and new media, and I had to enter a dicussion about copyright. Well, I mean, everyone knows what copyright is, so why? The discussion actually included a video telling us the parts that are included in infringing copyright, like a technology, copying a whole book, and even downloading pictures from the internet. The culprit, Michael, in the video had not only infringed copyright in all those categories, he had also used them in his project for a proposal to get promoted. He got fired in the end, before he found that it had been a dream. This video served as a deterrence to those whose fingers are at the edge of clicking the mouse and making a mistake, and a warning to those who had not thought of the idea.
I also participated in another forum of the two versions of the web, and a participant had stated that web 2.0 was better as it prevented face-to-face conflicts. However, sometimes, insulting websites may hurt the pride if someone, and cause him/her to commit suicide, which may be worse than face-to-face conflicts.
That's about all. See you next week!

Intro to IS
I've never known anything about the versions of the web, or anything like the IP. So I was surprised to learn that I had missed so much when I attended my first IS (infocomm studies) lesson in school today. I could imagine how blank my face was when my teacher explained all about the IP and the versions of the web. But, of course, it was extremely easy to understand it and I finally got what IP was all about, and the difference between web 1.0 and 2.0. Even for someone like me whose computer knowledge was nothing to sneeze at, the concept of the IP was easy to understand. The IP was the internet pretocol, and it came in the form of numbers. However, people found it hard to remember, and so, through a series of changes, it evolved into today's URL. The versions of the Web took a bit longer, which, the difference was, Web 1.0 only allowed the creator to add information into the website, and the public could only see, while Web 2.0 allowed the creator AND the public to add in information and help make the website more informative. It was complicated, but still, I somehow or another managed to understand it. (With countless silent sniggers from my friend, of course) I have to get the hang of it though, or I'll never hear the end of it from my friend. Gotta run. G'day! ;)
